Product specifications and features

A beautiful vessel with a neat shape
and a soft milky glaze,
all in exquisite balance.

1+0 pottery (Ichi Tasu Zero) is a pottery product brand produced by potter Kan Ito. This line was launched to reintroduce the robust and high-quality pottery created by craftsmen, known as "Toko," from the Edo to Meiji periods, as modern products. It features works re-designed and produced as products, based on Ito's original creations.
This "Kurawanaka Small Bowl," officially named "Children's Rice Bowl," originated when Ito created a smaller version of his "Kurawanaka Bowl" (originally for adults) for his son's first meal ceremony. It boasts a neat shape with no unnecessary elements, featuring a tall, raised base and a gracefully extending body, all covered in a soft, milky glaze. The balance is exquisite, and its dignified yet warm presence in the cupboard is truly captivating.
All the considerations made for children to hold it easily also make it user-friendly for adults and a healthy, pleasant vessel for any food served.

As a small bowl, a soba choko cup,
or a small rice bowl.
It's fun to think about
what dishes to serve.

With a diameter of about 9.5cm, this small yet generously sized bowl is perfect for daily use. It can be used as a small serving bowl for blanched greens or natto, or as an elegant bowl for chawanmushi. Additionally, its raised base makes it easy to hold, so it's also suitable for serving soba or somen dipping sauce, or even tsukemen soup.
It's highly recommended for small hospitality settings or as a mini-donburi for a late-night snack after drinks. While it holds about half a serving of an adult rice bowl, simply adding rice and ingredients creates a fresh impression. It's a versatile vessel that pairs wonderfully with Japanese and Chinese cuisine, inspiring creativity in how it's used.

A ceramic piece where the texture gradually
changes beautifully, which we hope
you'll enjoy without fuss.

This "Kurawanaka Small Bowl" is made of earthenware. Compared to porcelain, earthenware has a slightly higher water absorption rate, so its texture may change over time due to the absorption of oils and other substances. If you wish to prevent stains and dirt as much as possible, we recommend "mekatome" (pre-sealing, please refer to precautions) before use, or dipping the bowl in water and wiping it with a cloth before serving food. This can also reduce odor transfer from food.
However, we encourage you to use it freely and often, and we hope you'll enjoy the rich character that comes with the aging of its texture.

     - Turn off the heat, let it cool completely, then wash and dry.
